What the owner says

I have lived here for some 20 years and have enjoyed every minute of it. It has been wonderful, living on the outskirts of the village with the countryside all around yet not far from Canterbury, Sandwich and the Thanet towns. However, now the family have flown the nest I feel it is time to downsize.

Wingham is a very special village. It has everything you could want – an excellent primary school, shop and post office, two very good pubs and restaurants as well as a regular country market and a number of very good farm shops nearby including Gibsons where you can also meet your friends for coffee and breakfast. The village hall offers plenty of activities if you want to join in from toddler groups to the sunny and bright club for the senior members of the community. The Anchor is an excellent family friendly pub and puts on a number of events for children.

There are also regular bus services as well as school buses to the surrounding towns. There are plenty of great places to walk the dogs and the kids will enjoy a visit to Wingham Wildlife Park. In addition we are only a short distance from the City of Canterbury with its historic buildings, high street stores, individual shops, universities, schools, theatres and restaurants.

Property details

Standing in front of this beautiful Grade II Listed Georgian residence with its impressive Palladian entrance, symmetrical frontage and external shutters

surrounding multi-pane sash windows takes you back to the elegance of a bygone era. This feeling continues as you pass through the double-front-door into the

porch with its unusual white wrought iron and glass inner door to the entrance hall and original Georgian staircase. The property contains plenty of spacious and flexible accommodation – as well as a few surprises. There is an elegant drawing room with its unusual sculpted fireplace surround, flanked by arched shelving, as well as high coved ceilings and secondary glazed sash windows. Opposite is the grand dining room with an equally attractive fireplace and other period features and where you will be delighted to entertain at least a dozen guests comfortably to a formal dinner party or have the family for special celebrations. However, for daily use, the cosy sitting room in the original 1600s cottage part of the house with its French doors to the garden is just the place to relax, while anyone will enjoy working in what is currently being used as the office with its inglenook fireplace. The large and well-fitted country-style kitchen/breakfast room is no doubt the place where everyone will gravitate to with its lovely red four-oven Aga, beamed and vaulted ceiling and space for a large kitchen table. Despite its lovely country house feel this kitchen has been sensitively designed to also include everything you need for modern-day living such as a second oven and hob, American fridge/freezer, dishwasher, walk-in larder and adjacent fitted utility room. There is a small inner hall with access to the back of the property, a boot room and a shower. On the half landing in the original part of the house, there is a large contemporary family bathroom and two double bedrooms with modern basins, while on the first floor, overlooking the gardens are two impressive bedrooms built in the Georgian era. These have the higher ceilings and large fireplaces and include the master with its large Jack and Jill bathroom and, on the top floor, there are two bedrooms with vaulted ceilings making them ideal for children.
